My Project
Recently, I became a pilot and I want to bring the joy of aviation to my students. We are a class of special needs scholars who learn best by hands-on experience. Each student has an IEP and functions on the district mandated Alternate Curriculum, instead of the general curriculum.
I want to have my students experience the joys of things that fly, by making and launching simple wood models and helping to create their own models with our new laser cutting device.
We need specific supplies that the school does not provide. I would like to have my students work together in teams to build simple model airplanes and then take them outside to launch and fly them together. To accomplish this, I will need some simple wood model airplane kits, as well as prepared cut blanks of wood and acrylic. This will help build teamwork and improve social and life skills that students so desperately need. The pandemic robbed them of social interaction at a critical developmental time which was further compounded by their disabilities.
