My Students

Imagine walking into a classroom that is driven by students! My role has changed dramatically in the last 10 years of teaching. I now help facilitate my students' thinking, but they DRIVE their own learning.

We are working on building an environment where student learning is personalized.

Students are required to think critically, be creative, collaborate and communicate their thinking every day. Students have voice and choice about how required tasks are done. Personalized learning creates individual paths for learning.

My Project

The materials requested in this project will begin to fill our school's MakerSpace. This will be an area where students can go to CREATE projects that will help demonstrate their learning. In addition to recycled items that students bring from home, these materials will help students create and store prototypes for their learning. The rolling file will be able to house many projects when they are not working on them. The paint brushes, colored pencils, and construction paper will be used to color their creations. The twistees and wire will help students create 3D prototypes. The adhesives (tape and glue) will help hold their creations together.

Many future employers want their employees to be able to do two things.

First, they want their employees to be able to problem solve. When creating their own projects, students will be authentically problem solving, which will enhance a necessary life skill. Next, employers want their employees to be able to collaborate. Students will have to work together to create projects to develop their thinking.

This MakerSpace will inspire students to create.
