My Students

Have you ever had a goal that you knew you could not achieve without some help? I would love to give my fifth grade students Chromebooks to use for research projects and their everyday schoolwork. At this time, our school has a limited number of Chromebooks that can be checked out for classroom use.

The use of technology is a wonderful way to increase student engagement in almost any classroom activity.

Most of my fifth grade students come from lower income homes where access to technology is either very limited or extremely outdated. I have some classroom computers, but they are the old gum drop iMacs which are extremely slow, unable to connect to the school servers and are no longer able to support the latest version of many browsers. Therefore, the effectiveness of these computers is very limited. Our district is working to get technology into our classrooms, but this is a slow process. I would like my students to have up-to-date technology.

My Project

Introducing more technology into my classroom will be a great motivator for my students and foster their love of learning. My vision for the ten Chromebooks would be to engage the students in more web based projects that incorporate math, science, literacy, and social studies. With the Chromebooks they can even save their projects in the cloud and work on the projects at home. My students will be able to easily share what we are learning in the classroom with their parents. This will create a valuable partnership in my students' education. The Chromebooks will open my students up to new ideas and new experiences that will enhance their education and keep them searching for more educational experiences. I want to open the world to my students and I'm hoping to achieve this through giving them access to the most up-to-date technology available.

Knowing how to use technology and navigate the web is an important asset in the life of every child.

Our technological advancements will continue to increase and I would like to be able to give my students a head start. I would love to be able to make the world just a little more accessible to my students through access to the web in fast, efficient, and easy to use Chromebooks. That is my goal.
