Mrs. Hobart from Shreveport LA is requesting art supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students a glass fusion kiln and supplies to create glass art work.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
The students who will participate in the project are in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. They come from a school in which 99% of the population receives a free or reduced-price lunch and often do not have opportunities lots of other kids are able to experience daily. We, as their educators, strive each day to make experiences that will stay with them for a lifetime.
My students are talented and enthusiastic about art.
They love learning about artists and making their own unique art pieces. Many of them do not have the opportunity to make or experience art outside of the classroom. I believe that is one of the reasons they are so passionate about the art they create while they are in my classroom. "I can't wait to take this home!" are words I love to hear each day as my students create something they didn't think they could.
This project will allow students to work with materials they have never used or experienced before. Supplies at our school are limited to basics. Many other schools in our district have glass and pottery kilns and are able to experience creating this type of art work. I wish for my students to have the same opportunities as schools that are not low SES. All students can grow academically when experiencing the arts on a regular basis. This will not only allow them to create artwork but show some to the science behind how glass fusion works.
My students experiences should not be limited by their zip code.
Being able to make many different types of art like glass fusion will allow my students to have further understanding of the various types of artwork in the world. Offering opportunities like glass fusion will make students excited about learning and coming to school. They love creating art and this will foster a continued love and desire for art and artwork.
