Creating the Future by Teaching a Teacher

I need these books to help me start with a small idea that has a huge impact. Being a more innovative and deliberate teacher helps my students and helps me help other teachers.

My Students

I teach all high school seniors. These are students who have been taught how to learn the same way for a long time, and they are about to go out into a world in which they are expected to be innovative, creative, and self motivated goal setters. I firmly believe that for this to happen, the way they learn needs to change, it needs to be innovatively disrupted. For that to happen effectively while still being expected to achieve test scores and increase graduation rate, teachers need to learn the importance of digital literacy, engagingly empowering students, and harnessing the innovations of 21st century skills. I am excited to go into my room each day and try new things. My students are excited each day when they come in and say "What are we trying now?" They have learned that mistakes are evidence that they are learning, and they have learned how to use their creativity to create projects for content, but there needs to be more. I believe we have a great start in our room, but I want to take it to the next level by learning more and finding new ways to move empoweringly forward.

My Project

The goal of every teacher is to empower students. Empowering them first starts with empowering myself. The books on the list are tailored to teaching me how to create a well developed blended learning classroom that celebrates students as innovators. The books on the list will help me learn to teach through digital literacy and reenergize the passion I have for bringing meaningful learning into conversation with the world the students understand. I have always had a passion to learn and push boundaries, and the books on this list will help me do that in a way that makes a positive impact on the future of our students. These books will help me create a change and empower others to do the same! I want to use these books to learn and to propel my classroom forward. Then, with my classroom as a model, and these books as resources for the development of my class, I can take this information to other teachers and help be an agent for creating a culture of change for education.
