This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students live in a low income school district, and each year more and more cuts are made to our school, greatly affecting the resources we have. I work with a wonderful group of teachers that work hard to provide our students with meaningful learning experiences; however we have little money to do this.
Each day our students come to school eager and ready to learn.
They don’t let the financial hardships interfere with their desire to learn and be the best they can be.
My Project
For the last 20 years, our school district has offered a leadership camp to the middle and high school students. This three day camp allows students to attend mini sessions on conflict resolution, leadership skills, and building positive relationships with peers. The cost of the trip is paid for by the students and we try to keep the cost as low as possible. I am asking for funding for heat transfer vinyl so the students can design and print their own t-shirts to wear during their camp stay. I feel giving the students an opportunity to do this will help build a sense of community among the students attending the camp. The students love wearing their camp shirt year to year and how amazing it would be to say they helped create them!
Please consider donating to this project; this is an opportunity the students will not receive otherwise.
As an alumnus of the school and one of the first groups of students to attend the camp, I can testify it is a wonderful, meaningful experience for all involved. The students look forward to it each year, and we are counting on donors like you to help make this possible.
