My Students

My fourth graders are enthusiastic, energetic, and ready to learn! They approach each day with open minds and look forward to hands-on learning. They attend a low income, Title I school where resources and technology are limited both at home and at school. For many of them, school is a safe place to escape the everyday hardships they face and truly be themselves. I only hope to provide every opportunity possible to encourage the importance of their education and personal growth.

My Project

Throughout the 4th grade year, I enjoy reading several novels with my class. I try to choose novels that will move them as readers to make strong connections and relate to the characters. By forming a "relationship" with the characters, my students become engaged and excited about reading!

Number the Stars is one of those timeless historical fiction novels that my classes get wrapped up in year after year and can't get enough of.

After several years of use and love, my class set of this book is wearing down and becoming unusable. There are pages missing and ripped covers that can't be taped up anymore! A new class set of Number the Stars would give me the opportunity to keep teaching multiple reading skills using this book that for me never gets old and turns reluctant readers into book lovers!
