Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from a low income area. A large portion of my students have social and financial problems. Most of these students are bilingual and receive free lunch. They struggle to bring in supplies and are often asked to pay and attend events they are unable to afford.

My students are good children from low-income families that deserve the tools necessary to help them prepare for their future; with all the obstacles facing my students, school supplies should not be one of them.

They are hard workers who strive to produce work, and lack the supplies to do so.

My Project

Students will use their knowledge of linear functions to create an art project. The students will then color. Math is often considered boring and tedious. This project allows for students to create and design. It can be difficult to engage 8th grade students in math. Math is a process, but integrating art and math makes the process fun and exciting.

With a donation, you will be helping my students use their creativity to come up with a stained glass art that can be placed in the windows of the room, giving the students a sense of pride and belonging.

The students will use the graph paper to graph multiple linear functions (y=mx + b). They will then color in the shapes with crayons and markers to make what looks like stained glass murals. Many of the students do not have many things to call their own. A classroom is a safe place; an environment where they can feel comfortable, investigate and grow as individuals and as a class.
