My Project

Hello!

My office is a hub for students.

I am the social worker for a large, urban high school's recent immigrant population. Students come to me for help with anything from understanding their school schedules to understanding legal documents. They come to talk about everything from a crush to the loss of a parent or friend.

My role is to support them emotionally and to connect them to resources: educational, medical, legal, etc.

One thing almost every student of mine needs to get through the school day is SNACKS. Some come by to talk and get a snack while in my office, others come by for a snack, and that is when they open up. I am committed to always having snacks in my office for the kids, and I have no budget for this.

My students, many of whom have just arrived in the United States and almost all of whom live below the poverty line, also need basic school supplies, P.E. uniforms and locks for their gym lockers, etc. to thrive. And fidgets help them focus/stay in class even when they are a little bit anxious!

I have also requested bracelet-making supplies. Students like to come to my office at lunch and express their creativity. Everything I do to make my office a safe and inviting place allows for the deeper and essential work I was hired to do.
