Creating SEL Journals & Yearbooks While Building Confidence & Careers
Help me give my students the tools to turn their stories into bound books, building confidence, emotional strength, and real-world skills through journaling, SEL workbooks, and creating their own yearbook memories.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are creative, resilient, and full of potential. They attend a low-income, high-needs school where many face learning challenges and social-emotional struggles on a daily basis. Our special education counseling department is a safe space where students grow not only academically, but emotionally and socially.
To support their development, we are requesting book binding machines and supplies.
These tools will empower students to create their own SEL (Social Emotional Learning) journals and workbooks, allowing them to engage in meaningful reflection and emotional growth. These personalized materials will help them explore topics like managing emotions, building self-esteem, and practicing mindfulness, critical skills for their overall well-being.
But that’s not all. The book binding machine will also serve as a hands-on vocational learning tool. Students will gain real-world job skills by helping to design, assemble, and bind our school's yearbooks as apart of our PBIS system. This authentic work experience will build their confidence and prepare them for future employment opportunities.
