My Students
Help my students have a place to store their reading and writing materials! The students in my classroom are engaged and interested in learning how to read and write. However, they need a place to store their materials in an organized manner.
I teach twenty-one second grade students.
My school district is a small, rural school district. My students have developed a love for learning and, in particular, reading and writing. They truly enjoy reading and they let their imaginations run wild in their writing.
My Project
The reading and writing storage shelf will help my students learn organizational skills. It will allow my students a place to store their reading and writing materials. I use the Literacy CAFE and Daily 5 programs for my ELA instruction. These programs focus on student interest and choice. Each student is given a book box in which they store 5-6 self-selected, good-fit books to read on a regular basis. The book box also houses a journal and writing supplies for the students. By having all materials in a single location, it allows for more instructional time. Less time is spent on finding materials and more time is spent on reading and writing!
This project will allow my students to spend the majority of their ELA time reading and writing.
They will no longer have to roam around the classroom gathering the materials they need in order to be successful.
