In any classroom there are students ranging from WELL above average to well below average, especially in reading! These new center activities will allow me to give my leveled groups activities that are easily adjusted to their learning level without the usual struggle of making each group a center!
Our school district is very "average" compared to other districts in Ohio.
We are considered an "excellent rated" school district based on test scores and other areas, but still have the struggles of many levels of abilities being in one classroom and being able to teach them all during whole group lessons, small group lessons, and individual lessons. My students are very hard workers and love to learn! I want to give them EVERY opportunity to learn in the best way possible and have MANY resources to help them along!
My Project
Each school day from 8:30am-11:30pm,I teach reading, english, spelling, and handwriting. Within this time,I read with each student; whether it be in a small group or individually and my other students are expected to complete work independently am always on the lookout for new resources to help out with fiction, nonfiction, and responding to literature! These resources will enhance my lessons on responding to literature and I will be able to specifically pull out examples and work for them to practice skills using these materials. The learning materials are "kits" put together by grade level covering all levels of ability in my room-they will allow my students to work on comprehension skills, fluency skills, and work with responding to different types of fiction and non fiction literature. They will use these materials within their small leveled groups or independently. Also, the write on wipe off surface will allow for use again and again! That is also why we need the dry erase markers!
This project will allow me to differentiate my activity centers to enhance my students ability to respond to literature and work with fiction and non-fiction!
These are 3 HUGE components of becoming a good reader and being able to have success in all areas of not only literature throughout school, but in all subject areas!
