Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The requested occupational therapy materials will play a crucial role in supporting students' developmental and educational needs in the Bronx. These tools will help improve fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, sensory processing and self regulation, enabling students to participate more fully in classroom activities. By providing targeted resources to the undeserved community, such as adaptive writing aids, sensory items and therapeutic aids, students will build independence and confidence, empowering them to overcome challenges and reach their full potential. These materials will create an inclusive learning environment that fosters growth, engagement, and success for all students.
The writing aids will assist in developing proper writing grasp when holding a pencil/pen/crayon as a lot of my students have difficulty with holding items.
The weighted balls and items will allow students to feel more calm as they can be easily distracted. Weighted items help with proprioceptive input and help regulate the nervous system. The yoga mat will be used for gross motor and bilateral coordination activities to improve mind body connection. Thank you!!
