I teach at a Title I school. My students are considered at risk, due to their limited language proficiency and socioeconomic status. They come from low income households where Spanish is the primary language. More than 75% of my class receives free or reduced price lunch. Despite all challenges, they are eager learners and very inquisitive about the world. I can see them growing into extraordinary human beings when they are given the appropriate tools and provided with an adequate environment to achieve their goals.
I am requesting two iPads, so my students can access online books they can read or listen to. Being able to listen to reading will allow my students to improve their fluency and comprehension. My students are emergent readers who are not just learning to read but they are also learning to read in their second language, English. They may or may not speak English at home. The only opportunities they get to learn and read English are at school. They are eager to learn and expand their knowledge. They just need the tools to do so.
I want to provide my students with learning opportunities and the right tools that will ignite their curiosity and their love of learning in all content areas.
