Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are special because they come from many countries and cultures, yet they blend together in a peaceful and wonderful way. Despite economic and other challenges, these children are enthusiastic, hungry for knowledge, polite, loving, and hardworking every day of the year.
Our school is in a very diverse neighborhood, and our students embrace the many different cultures and languages of their classmates.
Although our school is in a high poverty neighborhood, our students come to us with a wealth of gifts to share.
My Project
Our 3rd graders need to express themselves and show their talents, but this year it has been hard to find ways to allow them to express their creativity because of all the restrictions due to Covid19. Kids are not allowed out of their classroom or even their desks all day and this is not easy for a young child or anyone else, but we have an idea to keep them feeling like kids even during this tough time.
This project will put one copy of the activity book Give This Book a Title by Jarrett Lerner into every student's hands so their creativity can fly without boundaries.
They can write, draw, imagine and just have fun while doing it. The words of the author himself say it best- "I hope this book helps turn kids into more confident, capable creators, that it helps make creativity a central part of their lives, and that they will, in turn, share the products of their creativity with all of us and with the world at large — making it a brighter, better, more beautiful place to live."-Jarrett Lerner.
Every day in our classroom, we take much needed brain breaks to allow our students to relax, share ideas and take a break from the stress of the new school day filled with restrictions and rules. Each student will have their own sketchbook to learn new skills, embrace their creativity and take pride in what they create. They will keep the books at their own desk and eventually will be able to bring them home as a keepsake and great memory of 3rd grade. They can share it with their families and be proud of what they accomplished. Hopefully they will always be inspired to continue to draw and write for years to come.
