This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students who will benefit from this project are middle school Newcomer English language learners demonstrating a strong desire to improve their English reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. The perseverance they demonstrate day in and day out as they confront the challenges of adapting to a new culture, learning a new language, and developing their academic skills across all content-areas is what I love most about them. It is evident that these students are here to learn, and as a teacher, what more can I ask for?

These students are happiest and engage most productively when provided with language learning materials that present them with games or challenges that they can complete together.

When these students engage one another in the process of language learning together, they have more fun and develop their language skills faster.

My Project

When it comes to acquiring English as a Newcomer English learner, comprehensible input, opportunities to have meaningful interactions, and opportunities negotiate meaning with other individuals is key. The materials we are requesting provide students with all of these conditions to accelerate their English language acquisition.

These materials will enhance student learning by providing the foundations for recurring structures to learn and practice written and spoken English independently, in small groups, and in the context of games and challenges.

With these materials, students will routinely engage one another in developing reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills through interactive activities and games.
