it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Lecture, lecture, lecture. How can we make history come alive?
My students come from families who are hardworking.
They are usually from a lower socioeconomic background. I think that these kids are amazing. Many come to school with various different issues and focusing on school can be an issue. My hope is that with activities such as these, my students can become more motivated in learning.
My Project
As we learn about the Great Depression, students will be forced to look at the many ways this economic disaster affected many different social groups in the 1930s. As they figure this out, they will begin to create a 3-5 minute mini drama to demonstrate the experience of the affected social group. Once they have created their scripts, gathered their props and costumes, the students are now ready to record their mini dramas. My students are really excited about using the two camcorders. It motivates them to complete the assignment.
I think that group work is one of the most important experiences a student can have.
They learn to work in teams, deal with different personalities and learn to collaborate with each other. I think this project gets them ready for life.
