Creating Mathematicians Through Math Workshop

My students need their math lessons to be presented in a workshop model. These professional development books will help me provide an effective math workshop for them.

My Students

Third grade is a year of amazing growth for students. Students work diligently on learning their multiplication facts, writing detailed stories, and working on reading skills. All of this could not be possible without the support of community members and parents.

My class of 21 students is filled with many different personalities and backgrounds.

I have students of different cultures, as well as different beliefs. Our school is made up of almost 400 students (25% of whom receive free/reduced-price lunch) who try to embody our 3 major school rules of being respectful, responsible, and safe. Every day teachers encourage students to dream, believe, think, and achieve.

My Project

Last year, I attended a Math Conference and was introduced to the idea of math workshop. Since my students already have reading and writing workshop, it would be an easy transition to move to math workshop as well.

I would like these books to help me implement and better understand how to teach math in a workshop format.

The few techniques taught in the workshop made a big difference and I feel the books will allow me to learn more strategies. These books will also help me better understand the progression of mathematical thinking in students and allow me to create lessons that play on students' strengths.
