This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a wide range of abilities in my classroom, from students who are learning to write numbers, to those who are performing well above grade level. I want to meet all of my students at their level and help them reach even higher so that they can be successful first grade mathematicians!

Our school is located in an economically disadvantaged urban neighborhood with a high crime rate.

The majority of my students are English Language Learners. Almost all qualify for free or reduced lunch. My students have a strong sense of classroom community and responsibility for each other. They are a lively and enthusiastic bunch who love to read to each other, dance, and sing karaoke!

My Project

Your donation will be used to purchase resources from Lakeshore Learning to support my students this year and for years to come! Teaching students multiple strategies to solve math problems develops their mathematical thinking and teaches them to be flexible problem solvers. Students will use the Ten Frames and Ten-Frame Activity Dice to practice counting, making ten, addition, and subtraction. The Number Line Slider Boards will provide hands-on practice with skip counting, addition and subtraction, mental math, and comparing numbers. Students will use the Visualize Math Write and Wipe Boards during individual and whole group lessons to visualize number concepts including bar models, number bonds, and fact family triangles so that they can practice making 10, operations, and more! The Operations Folder Game Library, Pop and Add games, Measurement and Data Folder Game Library, and Geostix Activity Set will be used as centers to reinforce what students have learned in class.

By providing my students with engaging games and materials that target specific math concepts, you are helping them build the skills that will make them successful throughout their academic careers!
