Our students are curious and excited about learning new things. Hands-on experiences drive their learning and provide opportunities beyond the written page. We are a 4 year old through 5th grade suburban public school. We are led by our district's mission of preparing 21st Century graduates while serving as the center for community learning. In doing so, we continually strive to provide an array of exceptional learning experiences in a high-performance culture of excellence that sets high expectations for EVERY student.
Problem solving with magnetic tools and marble tracks in response to reading opens doors to inquiry.
In my third year as an elementary school librarian, I want to incorporate a collaborative creation area in the library space to make connections to literacy and provide STEAM opportunities (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math). This project will engage students through enhanced, hands-on learning experiences. Students will learn about designs and innovations and have the opportunity to create across the curriculum with these tools. These hands-on experiences will drive student learning and provide opportunities to learn by doing. Building with a variety of tools fosters problem-solving, collaboration, inquiry, imagination.
Students will be able to create and innovate in different ways using these stem building kits. Guided instruction and independent time will allow students to use their past knowledge, creativity and problem-solving skills to create something unique. This process simulates real-world experiences so students are not only innovative thinkers, but also creators.
