My students need headphones that are durable and don't tangle. They also need Literacy Centers that challenge and round out their skills.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in a rural neighborhood in Merced, CA. My kindergarten classroom mirrors the cultural and socioeconomic diversity of California's Central Valley. Many of my students are first generation and lower-income and are from homes where they speak either Hmong, Spanish, or Russian as their primary language.
For most children, Kindergarten is the first stop in their educational journey.
At this critical time, it is vital to provide students with the tools and manipulatives that keep learning engaging, relevant and interesting. My students are creative and playful and I want to encourage these tendencies while simultaneously boosting their educational abilities.
My Project
My more advanced students need literacy centers that challenge their abilities and push their reading and writing skills (such as the sentence, word writing and word building activities) , while my struggling students need literacy centers that allow them to have fun in a variety of ways while simultaneously practicing the basic skills we have already learned in class (like the sight word fishing center). My class also needs durable, tangle-free headphones for our listening center, as a better option to the cheap ones provided by the district that the the kids quickly break, lose, or turn into a tangled-mess. Finally, the table-top whiteboards will give my students more opportunities to practice their writing, as well as a magnetic space in order to do their magnetic word building and math centers.
While my first literacy project was a fantastic start- this project would help me round out my students abilities and to challenge my students to push their literacy skills even further through fun, challenging and engaging centers.
This project would allow me much more flexibility in providing differentiated literacy education for my students. This means I would be able to reach my lower-students at their level and bring them back to grade-level while still challenging the limits of my advanced students.
