Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our children are highly motivated individuals who seek an opportunity to learn. Many of them come from all walks of life with different stories to tell but several things are common among them, such as low-socioeconomic status and English as a new language. Due to the economic struggles, many of them lack the funds to be able to build a library at home. School is the next place that they can be provided with the resource of books to embark on their reading journey.
My Project
Kids who have access to great books become great readers. Research says that in order to build a strong foundation and a genuine love for reading, students need to be able to access books that keep them engaged and capture their love for reading. With these requested books we will be able to create this authentic love for reading by providing them with a variety of text. Volume of books is necessary in order to deliver small group instruction, mini-lessons, and independent reading. Providing each student with a book increases their opportunity to explore and engage. Lack of resources should never be a hindrance to learning.
