Creating Literacy for Life Through Multi-Sensory Materials!
My students need Wilson Reading materials, especially the WRS Magnetic Journal with Letter Tiles and Student Portfolios, in order to practice spelling and decoding in a multi-sensory manner.
We teach 14-18 year-old young adults with a variety of intellectual, physical, and sensory impairments in our high school's REACH Program. Our students are focusing their time in school on preparing for life after high school; that looks different for every student. However, for all students, literacy is a key skill they will need to access life-long opportunities.
Our students are excited to dramatically increase their reading abilities using the Wilson Reading System and as a result, access a variety of post-secondary opportunities.
All of our students participate in intensive reading instruction with the goal of moving multiple reading levels and growing years in their reading before graduation.
My Project
Wilson Language materials will enhance our students' abilities to learn reading strategies so they can access reading in their daily life and as a life-long learners.
Materials are tactile and perfect for our students who are neuro-diverse and need a variety of learning modalities in order to internalize reading strategies.
The color-coded Magnetic Journals with Letter Tiles allow students access to tactile letters they can use to build and spell words while practicing the sound each letter creates. Other materials, such as the Student Portfolios, build students' literacy knowledge through vocabulary, high frequency words, and activities to enhance their listening comprehension skills.
