My school is a small school with only one to two classes per grade level. My eighth-grade homeroom students will spend two hours in our room every day and my other classes of seventh and eighth grade will be with me for 90 minutes! During this time, we'll be focusing on reading, writing, and discussion strategies that will make our students successful in high school. Our eighth-grade students end up attending selective, private and public high schools all over the city of Chicago. Many of them earn scholarships!
My Project
My students started reading the first book in the series during their author study. Some groups are reading their books quickly because they want to get started on the second book in the series that badly! When eighth graders ask,"If we finish our books a week early, can we get the second book in the series?", it's hard to say no. I'm so grateful that they are able to find joy in their reading with books at their right challenge level thanks to DonorsChoose.
We'd so appreciate the help one more time this unit, so eighth graders can continue with the series they love.
This will be a great way to head into our holiday break.
