My Students

In fifth grade my students are beginning to be truly independent and take on more responsibility for themselves and ownership of their work. By the end of the school year I would like the classroom to be so independent that it could run itself!

I have an incredible class of twenty-three students in Chicago.

They are like little sponges and they love to learn. My students enjoy working together in groups or on their own if they choose. They are a dynamic group of students and we all have fun learning in my classroom. It is a diverse group with reading and math abilities that range from 3rd-7th grade. My school is a pre-K through 8th grade school in the city with devoted educators and administration.

My Project

I am requesting vocabulary, reading and math games for my students to learn in a fun and exciting way. My students can play the games together and learn how to be independent in the classroom if they complete their task or if the game is their task. I believe that the right classroom activities will create an effective, independent, and fun learning environment. The Vocabulary Building Games are board games students can play during word work, reading or even during inclement weather. The Power Pen Reading Comprehension Quiz Cards and Power Pens can be used during small reading groups or independently. In my math class, students have rotations with different activities and the math games will enhance student learning during this time.

Learning through playing games is a favorite for students of all ages.

My students will learn how to play the games appropriately in small groups or independently, which fosters an independent classroom. Vocabulary games will broaden student vocabulary, comprehension games will practice reading standards and math games will enhance math fluency. My students will be learning both academics and social skills by playing games in the classroom.
