Creating in the Classroom With STEAM

My Students

I am lucky to have 13 amazing students in my room this year. They are truly 21st Century learners! We are learning how to be digital citizens through a blended learning model.

Our school is a great place to work and learn.

Our teachers are dedicated to our kids and their families. It is truly a community school. We are also an A+ arts school, which has allowed our kids the opportunities to express their learning in so many new and different ways!

My Project

For the past few years, I have done my best to integrate STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) activities into my first grade classroom. Through Maker Challenges and the use of our school's Makerspace, my students have been worked together and independently to plan, invent, test, and create several projects. Sometimes these projects are guided by me but oftentimes, they are completely open-ended.

I want to provide more opportunities for this creative thinking and problem-solving by introducing the use of robots and giving them safe tools to work with cardboard (one of our favorite materials) without my assistance.
