Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach Portuguese Immersion to 2nd graders. Most of my students have been in the immersion program for a little over one year, and a small portion of the students have started the program less than a year ago. Our school community loves our immersion program, and we are lucky to have great support from our stakeholders and parents.

My students are brave 2nd language learners who come to school eager to learn new words and improve their ability in the target language.

They love it when a lesson has different things to keep them engaged. Some of the things they enjoy doing are watching videos, listening to songs, and playing online educational games. It is really amazing to see their growth, both in academic skills and in the target language, through the year.

My Project

First, our class has been learning about landforms since December. To conclude our learning project about landforms, students will use the knowledge that they gained about landforms to create models. Each students will choose their favorite landform, and they will use play dough to model it. Once done, students will write about the landform they created and its attributes, all in Portuguese!

In addition to the science/Portuguese project, students love to use their Chromebooks to do different activities.

Unfortunately, there are no headphones for my students to use while working independently on their Chromebooks. Our classroom becomes too noisy when everyone is working online at the same time. The noise makes it harder for me, as a teacher, to help students individually, as it is very hard to hear and concentrate on a conversation. The headphones will be very helpful to keep the classroom noise level low, giving me the opportunity to efficiently help students who might be in need of one-on-one help.
