I teach music to students in kindergarten through 5th grade. My students are excited to learn about music! The nearly 1200 students at our school come from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. They make connections to each other, the community and world through music.
My students love to sing, dance and play instruments as we explore music.
They are natural musicians and they greet each new experience with enthusiasm. Performing instruments is always a favorite. My students learn best when they have hands on experiences in music.
The xylophone and cajon requested in this project will provide opportunities for my students to gain hands-on experience creating and performing music. Adding these instruments to our existing instruments will increase the number of students who can play at one time and improve the pacing of our lessons.
Students understand concepts best when they are actively involved in their learning.
Students will improve in their understanding of basic music concepts and their ability to create and express themselves. The xylophone and cajon offer different timbres for compositions and performances. The cajon will be a new instrument for our classroom. I can't wait to see the faces of my students as they experience this exciting instrument for the first time!
