This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work in a Title I school located in the heart of NC. With that said, every student in the school is offered free breakfast and lunch. Unfortunately, my students mostly come from low-income, single parent homes.
Although a lot of the students in our school come from situations that a lot of children wouldn't rise out of, they come to school on a daily basis with a hunger to learn something new each and every day.
I am very proud of the effort that they put in daily.
My Project
By using these materials, I want my students to enjoy and learn to love reading - just like I do! I plan on incorporating the fishing game and stamps into different centers that students can go to during our English Language Arts time. This will give them new and fun ways to learn their sight words and letter sounds.
Every student learns how to read at a different pace and by receiving these leveled books, I will be able to meet my students exactly where they are.
I like to let my students to be able to read anywhere in the room during independent reading time - wherever they feel most comfortable and away from distractions. It will be a lot easier for students to carry their books to different places in the room if they received a bag to carry them in! We used the ziploc gallon bags last year. Unfortunately, those bags weren't kindergarten proof!
