Help me give my students a relevant, engaging social studies curriculum to help them become informed global citizens.

I teach a group of hardworking first graders on the West Side of Chicago. They come to school every day ready to learn and want to gain as much knowledge as will fit in their little heads. I am lucky enough to loop with my class from last year, and I am excited to see them continue to grow.
Although we are located in an underserved area, that never stops my students' drive to learn and thrive.
Despite the challenges they may face, they never give up and have big aspirations in life. I want to provide them with the tools and materials to meet any challenges that arise and help them view themselves as scholars capable of anything.
While we are learning remotely, I want to give my students the best instruction that I can. There has been lots of trial and error, but we are in a rhythm in many subjects. The one thing that has not gone well is social studies.
Too often, social studies is pushed to the back burner to prioritize math and reading instruction.
Of course these subjects are vital, but these skills can be made more relevant by embedding them in social studies and STEAM instruction. It is much harder to find high- quality engaging social studies resources because it is not a priority, and I do not want this to inhibit my students' learning.
I am requesting funds to be used on Teachers Pay Teachers in order to purchase social studies resources that will engage my students and help them become critical, thoughtful citizens. I would like to purchase the monthly social studies and "not your average..." units written by LaNesha Tabb and Naomi O'Brien. These units have wonderful reviews and are adaptable to either in- person or remote learning.
