My wonderful students are second graders. We are lucky to have a beautiful country school with a garden and a big field with a track for running. There are nine classrooms: we have transitional kindergarten class through sixth grade and a RSP program.
Our school is small and invested in each student's success.I feel very lucky to be part of the West Side team.
We have a fantastic group of students (I don't claim to be impartial), supportive parents, a dynamic staff, and two rather cute kittens that patrol the campus.
My students need a microscope for outdoor classroom science investigation in the garden. Our campus includes a garden where budding scientists search for bugs, observe pollinators, plant seeds, and experiment with soil.
Crushing eggshells with mortar and pestle is one way to practice eye-hand coordination and improve dexterity.
The crushed egg shells are utilized as fertilizer for the rose bushes which brings about the concept of feeding our garden as our garden feeds us. Also needed: A few nature-based puzzles and games for rainy days. While some of these things will be housed in second grade, some will live in the garden shed so that all students may use them with appropriate supervision.
