This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from many diverse backgrounds. My students live in a challenging area, yet their thirst for knowledge doesn't sway. My students are like any other students except for the fact that they face many challenges in and outside the classroom that typical students don't have to. My students come from poverty-stricken and crime-ridden neighborhoods. Something as simple as riding your bike in your neighborhood can be an extremely dangerous activity. However, their spirit and desire to learn and excel has not wavered.
My Project
Closing the achievement gap is no easy task. Mainly because of the pandemic a large population of students have fallen way behind. As a result I'm working with students who are far below their grade level. I'm asking for a leveled library so that students can have books at their own reading level.
I have varying levels of reading abilities in my class and having a leveled library will enable all of my students to have access to books that they will be able to read independently.
Students get discouraged when they have difficulty with reading books above their skill level. Having a leveled library will give them reading material that will hopefully strengthen their confidence along with the improving their fluency.
