My third graders are naturally inquisitive learners who thrive as readers when given appropriate texts to support their comprehension. Independent reading is a huge part of our day, with a focus on reading strategies in both fiction and non-fiction texts.
My kiddos are developing a sense of their own reading identities, discovering a love of reading as they delve into more complex texts.
I have a variety of 8 and 9-year-old learners who come from many different backgrounds. Many of my students experience living within the poverty line. Despite this, my students work their hardest to meet their own educational goals.
My Project
As adults, we tend to gravitate towards reading materials with high interest topics. Third graders are no different. Students in my classroom love reading, as long as it fits both their interest and developmental reading level. We are in need of 4 sets of fiction and non-fictions texts to meet our reading goals this year.
My students are in need of sets of leveled texts to support their development of reading skills and strategies in guided reading groups.
When you donate to this project, you will be supporting grade level learners, as well as struggling and gifted/talented readers. These book sets will allow us to best meet our collaborative learning needs in small groups, as well as individual reading goals. Having multiple sets of high interest texts at an appropriate reading level will allow students to foster a love of reading as we work together to meet year long goals.
Additionally, students will also benefit from the addition of many science related texts to our classroom library, which will support many of our science learning targets this year!
