This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The great thinkers, tomorrow's inventors, the future world leaders are the faces that stare back at me each day. Their families represent every socioeconomic level, come from almost every continent, speak multiple languages and most importantly bring with them their own unique and independent personality and perspective
My students thrive on asking questions and exploring their world by themselves as much as possible.
In our classroom, we use a bilingual teaching model- English and Hebrew. Our students use this additional learning component to their advantage everyday, as they blend the languages together and use it as a tool to help merge their home and school lives together as they take what they learn at school and educate their own families.
My Project
Our students have a natural love for books and are continuously requesting to have their favorite stories reread to them. By having a listening center in our classroom library, our students will be able to fulfill this interest and expand their own reading abilities! Especially during center time, when the teachers are often leading small groups, the students will still have the opportunity to work independently, strengthen their social skills, and most importantly work on developing their early reading skills. As our students engage in multiple languages at one time, this listening center, would also provide them a chance to reinforce the vocabulary they are learning in both languages as they read along and sing to some of their favorite stories.
