My Students

Student in my class love to get out of the classroom and experiment with new technology. We are a digital media/art class that uses video cameras/computers to create and produce story through HD video and sound. My students want to get their personal hands dirty by using drone technology.

We are a high school located in Hawaii.

Many of my students are resource limited and the only place they get to see or use new types of technology is at school. By providing and allowing our students to touch and feel new technology whether it be computers, cameras, or even the drone technology we are requesting, we are empowering them to see and believe that the future for them using new technologies in an occupation or job can be a real possibility.

My Project

We are requesting a drone copter with a built in HD camera. These will be used by students to understand first understand the science of flying. Students will run through a number of science experiments using the drone technology. They will then be taught and will learn how to fly and use the drone technology to shoot HD video to aid in the creation of personal digital stories. They will learn what HD cameras do, and how drones can give them different angles/shots for their digital stories that they can not get otherwise. They will actually get to see, touch, and feel the latest technology they only see on TV.

Students will now have access to something they only can dream about, to get their hands on, and fly, and shoot HD video for their personal digital stories.

We had a visitor come by last year with their drone technology, and my students got so excited and they buzzed/talked about it for weeks. This would allow them the opportunity to use it THEMSELVES. They will have access to use the latest HD camera technology.
