This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the excitement you had about learning when you were in first grade. My students are very excited about learning! I want them to continue that excitement and the love of school. Every child deserves to be implemented with math resources to keep them motivated to learn.

My students have many more challenges than most 6 or 7 year olds.

Our school is located in a low income neighborhood, where 98% of the children have free or reduced breakfast and lunch. The neighborhood is in a challenging area where the children don't get to experience much outside of home and school. They don't have the opportunities to explore museums, national parks, mountains, oceans, aquariums etc. that most children have. Many of the children spend the entire day from 7 AM to 6 PM at school. Evan though they are faced with these challenges, they love school and are willing to work hard at school. My students are thriving on technology and there favorite subjects are math and science.

My Project

My students are so excited about learning. I will be able to bring my students interactive software that will bring math alive in the classroom. I can see there faces know as they are working with the interactive boards, they will be so engaged, that they will just want to learn more. The hands on manipulative's will provide extra activities for the students so I can pull small groups aside. My students have been working on their math facts and they are always wanting to be timed on how fast they can add and subtract. The practice boards will give them opportunities to time themselves as they memorize their facts. Place value is a hard concept for my 1st graders. If I had the Place Value Builders they could have hands-on materials to work in groups to build a variety of numbers. I can see this really working!

This project is so important to me because my students deserve to have the best educational experience I can provide for them.

I want them to continue to be motivated and challenged in school. My students have a passion for technology and to be able to teach them math with technology sets them up to want more and more.... learning. Please help my students deepen their understanding of new knowledge that they so deserve.
