My Students

I believe creating a safe, comfortable, and open ended learning environment is key to the success of all children. I work very hard each day to reach the needs of my students. Most of my students come from low to middle income homes and with cuts to funding there is not money in our budgets for anything outside of basic supplies.

My students are all unique, talented, and have multifaceted interests and abilities.

Students today need choice, including the ability to choose their own learning path to some degree. No two students are the same, nor do I expect them to be excited about the same learning opportunities at all times. I do believe all will benefit from exploration and variety and I am excited to see their increased participation and growth in their lifelong learning journeys. Students will be more attentive when given the choice to engage in learning activities through multiple opportunities and avenues.

My Project

In first grade we have several educational units throughout the year with different themes. We know students learn in different ways including visually, auditorily, through sensory activities, and more. One of the ways we approach learning is by allowing students to create art. Students get to learn about the theme and sometimes end the unit with a craft and writing activity.

We enjoy giving our students exposure to many different art mediums and types of creative outlets each year.

It is important to us that we provide these experiences but it takes a lot of time, supplies, and money to make it happen. We are running low on our art supplies like paper, paint brushes, paint, glitter, and so much more!
