I teach at a Title I elementary school in a small county in Virginia. Many of my students come from low-income families, and the pre-K program at my school was developed to ensure my students had a safe place to go and learn through their formative preschool years.
Social and emotional development is key at an early age.
I want specific books and tools to use to help my students navigate the really big feelings that they have. I plan to use many of the items to teach and honor diversity. A lot of my students come to me already behind the eight ball, many of them are dealt a losing hand. I plan to use my time in the classroom to not only teach them academics, but to teach them how to regulate, and their emotions, while also teaching love and kindness through diversity.
