Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the sweetest and most eager to learn Dance students. We are in a Title 1 school and most of our students are economically disadvantaged. I am happy to be able to share my love of Dance with them as many may have never gotten the chance to do outside of school.
The area was hit hard by Hurricane Harvey's flood and it has taken a long time for the community to rebuild, but slowly things are getting back to normal.
Many of the students have kept their spirit and hopes up high.
Through their resilience and positive outlook, we are caught up and currently working towards our annual Dance recital. The kids have been making up their own Dance routines and are getting super excited.
My Project
At the end of the school year, the NMS Dance Department puts on a Dance Recital/Showcase in which each class period breaks up into small groups to create a Dance routine. The class votes on their favorite and the choreographers of the winning vote will teach the rest of the class period their routine. That routine will be the class period's routine for the show.
I have 7 periods, meaning that's the minimum amount of student choreography pieces that will be included in the show.
The kids really look forward showing off their class dances at the show where parents, siblings, relatives and classmates come to watch. The portable speakers will help hear the music better and also aid throughout the year when we split up to practice in small groups.
