Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 4th graders are full of energy, and most of all eager to learn. Our school is an inner city school with 97% of the population qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. These kids come to school excited and ready to give it their all.
Many are English learners working hard to reach their English goals to reclassify and be proficient in English with little support at home.
My students enjoy spending time at school many times because school is the one places they feel safe and taken care of. They come ready to tackle any academic challenge they come across. It is a great experience as a teacher to see how they take ownership of their learning throughout the year.
My Project
Writer's Workshop time can be a great time to tap into a student’s imagination, but many need to feel supported and motivated to be able to open their imagination. I am requesting file folders, pencil pouches, clip boards, individual pencil sharpeners for each of my 4th grade writers. This will help them start on the lifelong love of writing.
The workshop setting and materials I am requesting supports children in taking their writing seriously and viewing themselves as writers.
By having the right writing tools the students will be provided with various opportunities to develop their writing voice. Such materials show it is time to put on their writing hats on and just focus on creating.
