Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Oh no, not another test!" my fourth grade students groan nearly every other week. As mandated state tests continue pouring in, I want to provide my students with the opportunity to use their creative and unique minds by giving them the chance to use more interactive and fun ways to grow and learn.
I am a fourth grade teacher in the state of Florida.
I teach reading, language arts, and social studies. That means that I am in charge of the reading and writing portion of our state mandated test. I service forty-two children who are culturally, economically, and academically diverse. Very often, using pencil and paper gets very boring and challenging for certain children, especially for those who are below grade level in reading and writing. These students often have a difficult time staying on task and grasping skills and concepts being taught. I would like to incorporate technology into my class in order to better help those who are struggling. Additionally, some of my students have limited, to no, access to technology at home. These laptops will give them an opportunity they normally would not have. It will facilitate learning by rendering instructional material in a fun, creative, and interactive way.
My Project
For my students, being able to have laptops at their fingertips to do writing, and being able to access different intervention and instructional resource programs that would help them with these areas would be absolutely beneficial. Several reading assignments given to my students need to be completed online, and having these laptops at hand will enable my students to complete these readings during "Learning Time" (center time). Also, when it comes to writing, I like to be very creative with them and provide them with as much guidance as I can to have them be ready by February, which is when they will take the writing test. I would be able to have students use the laptops when I am doing whole group instruction as well as when I meet with individual students and help them with the writing process. Helping these children how to edit, revise, and add more details to their writing while using certain programs in the computer, would be very helpful and of great assistance for them.
Donations to this project will have a great impact on my fourth grade students, especially because I have some students who have very limited resources at home.
With the use of these laptops, I will be able to provide all of my students with additional learning opportunities in both reading and writing. Please become an integral part of "Creating Creative Children" and together let us see how our far our children's minds can go when they have the right resources to do so!
