Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
On a daily basis in our chemistry classrooms, the students are required to use a scientific calculator. Many of my students have a four function dollar store calculator and they are not adequate.
Our school has a diverse population of students.
Many of our students have parents whose primary language is not English. We are proud of our diverse heritage in our school district, but sometimes this creates an achievement gap. One of our middle schools is a Title I school as well.
My Project
Imagine, all of my students using the same calculator and feeling the sense of achievement when they are able to compute these difficult stoichiometric conversions. Chemistry is difficult enough without having to compensate for the lack of a calculator.
I am requesting 58 scientific calculators and 2 teacher kits to help my students perform calculations during chemistry class.
My students deserve to be challenged on a daily basis.
Providing them with these basic tools will allow us to raise the level of our classroom experience. Thank you for considering my project.
