Creating Cool Crafts for Mother's Day Celebration!
Help me give my students collage boxes, craft sticks, acrylic paint, paint brushes, card stock, and paper doilies for a school wide Mother's Day Project.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are vibrant, funny, inquisitive little humans who love learning about the world around them. They are eager to learn. They love to play. They love reading books, participating in dramatic play, using technology, and participating in outdoor activities to help them learn and grow.
My students love school.
For many of them, our school is a safe haven. It's where they come to feel safe, feel love, build relationships, and to learn. Part of my responsibility is to provide a nurturing and rich environment that allows them to grow, inquire, learn, and question the world around them. At the same time, provide them with love and push them to be the best human beings that they can possibly be. They often rise to meet and exceed my expectations when the right materials and tools are at their fingertips. Oh, the places they can go!
My Project
These art materials will not only help my students create memorable and meaningful cards and crafts for their mothers, but it will also help to build community within my school building. We will use the acrylic paint to decorate ceramic mugs and plates for Mother's Day. We will use the doilies and card stock to create Mother's Day cards and picture frames. Our mothers and mother figures will be so honored to receive these wonderful, thoughtful handmade gifts and crafts. I know they will cherish them for many years to come.
We realized last year, especially during the holiday season, that many of our students lost their moms unexpectedly, were relocated to a shelter or had to live with other family members that took on that role of mom, or suffered from some other type of trauma.
We wanted to do something or create an event where our students and their families could come together and share some happy, fun, and memorable moments that were positive and life changing. My hope is this Mother's Day Project will be open to everyone at my school (grades PreK-5) and they will embrace this opportunity to build community, create art work, and enjoy themselves immensely!
