This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In our Humanities classroom we want to link History content to current events and things that might impact their lives. Having access to interesting, compelling, thought provoking, informative articles would not only help my students reach their reading goals but bring History alive!

Our students come from predominantly low income urban areas.

They are a fantastic group of hard working, resilient, creative kids who are excited about learning. Our school is a rigorous, loving, inclusive environment that pushes our students daily to challenge themselves and excel not only in academics but in leadership as well. The Core Principles of our school are writing, service learning, STEM, and resiliency.

My Project

We will use Time Edge in class for many different applications. We will be able to listen to articles and practice out listening skills as well as note taking. We will be able to link current events to historical periods making History relevant. We will be able to do research on topics and use our research in our writing. We will have access to numerous examples of informative articles that the students can use as mentor texts.

In humanities we use news articles almost daily to teach and practice reading and writing skills.

Giving our students access to these articles would be an amazing asset to our classroom! Students will use articles to practice a variety of skills; note taking, research, reading comprehension, writing, citing textual evidence, and comparing and contrasting opposing views to name a few. This will provide our students with a wide variety of reading content and add depth to our classroom discussions
