My Students

What can Interactive Notebooks do for English Language Learners? Research has shown that it can transfer content in the working memory and make connections to their previous knowledge. This makes the students more likely to retain the content.

I have 20 eager fifth grade students in my SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) classroom.

All of my students are learning English as their second language. Most of my students are from South American countries such as El Salvador, Columbia, and Peru. They all receive free breakfast, snack, and lunch.

My Project

Students will learn to organize their math learning in an Interactive Binder. They will use the format of teacher created notes on the right side of the page and their reflections and summaries on the left side of the page. Research has shown that this format of learning is beneficial for English Language Learners. It creates active connections between what they are learning and their long term knowledge, making it easier to retain the content. And now every child will have a ruler for their own notebook.

I am very eager to begin Interactive Notebooks and these materials will allow me to set up an Interactive Binder with my students in mathematics.

The rulers will help each child learn measurement skills. Both supplies will improve our mathematical skills and critical thinking,
