"A generous heart, kind speech, and a life of service and compassion are the things that renew humanity." ~Buddha.
Imagine a classroom and a world full of people who truly believe in and act upon the idea that kindness and compassion are a sign of strength rather than weakness.
My classroom consists of 22 diverse kindergarten students.
They are enthusiastic and energetic learners who are at a crucial age for character development. Our school is a high poverty, inner city school with more than 80% of the students receiving free or reduced lunch.
My Project
The books that I am requesting through this project are all focused on kindness, compassion, empathy, and self control. The concepts presented in each book will serve as a springboard for class discussions about how we treat each other and how our actions can help make our classroom and the world a better place. The students will learn how to react to different social situations and how to handle their own emotions.
Learning these life skills will improve the climate and community in our classroom.
The students will be better equipped to positively handle conflict and work together as a team. My hope is that these skills will carry over into the lives of the students.
