Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are English language learners who have been in the US for zero to three years and need support with language acquisition. They are hard-working, intelligent kids who are grateful to have a shot at an American education.
Financial instability and cultural differences often make my students a fragile population in US high schools.
Obtaining simple things, like pencils and paper, is burdensome for many. Buying earbuds with a microphone to practice listen and speaking for an online state test is nearly impossible.
My Project
From basics, like pencils and paper, to instructional supplements, these requested supplies will help my students accelerate their language acquisition and gain the confidence they need to be successful high school students. The Earbuds with microphones will allow my students to practice speaking and listening in a way that simulates a state test for language acquisition. The ELL game set will encourage the students who may have plateaued in language learning, so they may continue to push themselves.
These resources will be used to develop the language skills that will certainly help my students with their reading and writing skills while improving their skills in other subject areas like math and science.
The Apple Pencil will allow me to spend more time working directly with students as I update grades and reports in real time on my iPad. In addition to the 40 students who will use these materials this year, more than half of the supplies will continue to serve other students in my ESL classroom year after year.
