My students begin and end each day together on the rug. We spend a great deal of time using our rug space for science projects, large group math activities, and for Promethean Board activities. It is our home base.
FATE is a quaint little school in a neighborhood that feels like a small town in a big city.
The classes are small and everyone is treated like family. The majority of students come from low-income households and have limited resources, yet we have an extremely active PTA. We take great pride in the level of parental involvement at FATE. I will be moving up from Pre-K into Kindergarten and will leave behind my bright and busy classroom. I am moving into a classroom with many materials, but with limited furnishings. I am unable to bring any with me from my current classroom. I would like to create a warm and inviting atmosphere in my new classroom with a vibrant meeting space, but I need your help.
I am requesting a new classroom rug for our large group meeting space. This rug will help build our classroom culture and community by giving us a comfortable space to work together on projects. A large rug will allow us to conduct science experiments together as a whole group and will give us a place to sit when we are using the Promethean Board as a class. Additionally, it will allow us to use math tubs as independent centers during our math block. Students can work with partners to play math games in a well-defined space. My new classroom has a small rug, but it isn't big enough to accommodate the entire class and it is quite faded. I selected this particular rug because it matches our school logo. It has a large tree and each student can sit on a leaf. Having personal space is very important to Kindergarten students and the pattern on the rug will help with classroom management.
