Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We are creating a calming, safe space in the peer counseling room for our 3,700 students to relax, de-stress, and develop essential life skills for managing mental health. This area will be used by both peer counselors and any student who needs a quiet moment to calm down or work through overwhelming emotions. The space will feature mindfulness practices, such as yoga and deep breathing exercises, alongside self-help resources like journals, relaxation techniques, and art supplies to encourage emotional regulation and personal growth. With comfortable seating, soft lighting, and calming plants, the environment will foster a sense of peace and support, allowing students to feel safe and cared for while learning skills to navigate life’s challenges.

We are looking for plants to create a natural, soothing atmosphere, yoga mats and exercise props to support mindfulness practices, and soft lighting to set a calming tone.

Donations of art supplies (such as journals, coloring books, and markers) would also be greatly appreciated, as these resources will allow students to express themselves creatively in a therapeutic way. Your contributions will make a lasting impact by providing a safe, supportive environment for students to manage their mental health and develop healthy coping skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
