Creating Calming Corner Can Help Regulate Emotions

My Project

As a teacher, I see firsthand how many students come to school carrying more than just backpacks—they bring anxiety, frustration, and emotional stress. That’s why I want to create a Calming Corner in our classroom: a dedicated, safe space where students can regulate their emotions, refocus, and return to learning when they’re ready.

This corner will be equipped with sensory tools, soft seating, calming visuals, and emotion-regulation materials like journals and stress-relief toys.

It's not about giving students a break from learning—it's about helping them learn how to manage their emotions so they can learn more effectively.

Many of my students, especially those with special needs or trauma backgrounds, struggle with emotional regulation. By providing this space, I hope to teach coping strategies and support mental health in a positive, proactive way.
